Objectives
The Singapore Bioimaging Consortium (SBIC) plans to harness existing imaging expertise and capabilities in Singapore and develop them into a focused national platform to support the growth of multi-disciplinary research activities and speed the development and translation of biomedical research discoveries into clinical applications.
Activities
The physical SBIC facility will be based in Biopolis, with possible future satellite units strategically located in extramural locations across Singapore. One of the concepts being explored is the establishment of dedicated clinical bioimaging research units, funded and staffed by A*STAR, in one of the academic medical centres.
Researchers and clinician scientists from the wider scientific community, comprising universities, hospitals and disease centres, would have access to the bioimaging facilities located at Biopolis. They will also be able to participate in the Consortium through joint projects that would be funded by A*STAR. Joint training programmes, as well as joint and adjunct appointments, will be encouraged between the intra- and extra-mural components of SBIC.
Leadership
The SBIC is led by Professor Sir George Radda, a renowned expert on magnetic resonance in medicine, who has served on numerous scientific committees in the UK and is a member of Singapore's Biomedical Sciences International Advisory Council.
