How can an industry consortium help me keep up with the technological changes that affect my industry as a whole?
An industry consortium addresses a common critical technology need of a specific industry sector, eg to help the participating companies acquire some new expertise very quickly, or to develop platform, pre-competitive technologies essential for the next phase of the industry.
Industry members, ranging from MNCs to local companies, have a common avenue to share their needs. Through pooling of their resources, tapping on the RIs and learning from their peers in the consortium, they can reduce risk and accelerate the acquisition of new expertise and technology.
Can you give me an example of how this works?
Electronics Packaging Research Consortium
As the semiconductor industry migrates from single-chip packaging to System-in-Package technologies, local semiconductor companies need to quickly acquire know how and experience in electronic packaging to remain relevant. The Electronics Packaging Research Consortium (EPRC) was set-up to develop assembly technology (wire-bonding, wafer bumping, flip chip, 3D packaging) & reliability and design (electrical, thermal, mechanical) that are needed for the industry. Companies in EPRC will able to tap on the research results, share resources with RI, obtain training for their engineers and have networking opportunities with consortium members.
